Buddha quotes

An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

Which makes me want to replace "mind" with "soul" in that first quote. Or heart.

It's a translation, so I figure mind probably encompassed those things in the original, esp. since the Buddha was so concerned about "right thought."

I think "thought" falls short, at least in this language.

Well, truly right thought was right action. So since they both tended to happen in the present regardless of actual outcome (it's kinda the same idea as coveting your neighbor's wife and comitting adultery in your heart)...

But yeah. I think you're right on.

When I read the first quote the first time my mind automatically replaced "mind" with "soul" - I had to re-read.

I like those quotes though
